Teaching GIS to Elementary and High School Students
Lisle/ Naperville, Illinois
October 28, 2014

This full-day workshop is for K-12 teachers to learn basic GIS skills and to discover how GIS can be integrated into their curriculum.
Using “in-the-cloud” ArcGIS Online software, teachers will create a simple GIS lesson that can be used immediately in their classroom. The workshop will be coordinated with key ILGISA sessions, so that teachers will have a day full of GIS
learning, including opportunities to participate in a conference session and to meet GIS professionals. Besides learning basic GIS skills, participants will listen to the keynote speaker who will be discussing the state K-12 license. Instructional strategies for integrating GIS into curriculum and meeting state standards will be presented. Participants will also learn how to apply for the license and about other GIS opportunities for themselves and their students. Participants will need to bring their own laptop computers (PC or Mac) or iPads with wireless capability.
